Major Hillary supporter calls for her to drop out

Hillary supporter Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, seeing the writing on the wall, has asked Hillary to concede:

drop out (none / 0)

Expect more to do the same in a very short period.

Hillary can't win the nomination anymore. She can only hurt Obama in the general.

Re: drop out (none / 0)

There has been a diary on this already.

Re: drop out (none / 0)

I apologize if this has been posted before. I did not see it.

Did you just say that?

Re: Major Hillary supporter calls for her to drop (2.00 / 0)

Did she ask her brother not to take his challenge of a sitting Democratic President to the convention floor? Oh, well.

Hillary Clinton has earned the right to stay in this race for as long as she wants.

Re: Major Hillary supporter calls for her to drop (2.00 / 2)

Of course she has. It is not a question of what she has earned, it is a question of what is best for the party and for our General Election chances.

It is not an issue of disrespect for Hillary and I do not think anyone with an objective view believes it is.

You apparently read a lot into (2.00 / 1)

the article.  She said that the Clinton campaign is in a tough spot.  She even said she thought Obama would win the nomination.

But she no where said that Clinton ought to concede.

Re: You apparently read a lot into (none / 0)

She said that she called the Clinton campaign and advised that they 'go out on a high note' but her advice was politely dismissed.

That is not calling for (none / 0)

a concession.  It is calling for the rest of the campaign to be conducted with a certain tone.

Re: That is not calling for (none / 0)

LOL.  A plea which the Clinton camp has clearly rejected, as noted in the article.

That's irrelevant to this diary or the string of comments.  Frankly, I hope they launch a torpedo against the good ship Hope that put a hole the size of a Volkswagon in its side.

Re: You apparently read a lot into (none / 0)

The article says Townsend asked Clinton "to go out on a high note," and I think fugazi must have read this with heavy emphasis on 'go out." But I agree that Townsend isn't asking Clinton to get out now; she's just asking her to recognize that the race will be over soon, probably not in her favor, and scale back her attacks accordingly.

Re: Major Hillary supporter calls for her to drop (2.00 / 2)

"Townsend said she expects Sen. Barack Obama to win the Democratic presidential nomination and that Clinton is finished. She believed that the Wisconsin results demonstrated that Clinton's coalition (voters over the age of 50 and those earning less than $50,000) had fallen apart"

did she use the word "concede?"  no.  but if a supporter is saying that she thinks her candidate won't win, what else is the message??

Re: Major Hillary supporter (none / 0)

Throughout this campaign I really wondered if her surrogates are trying to elect her or trying to end her.

Re: Obama need practice (none / 0)

Obama still has over 900 more delegates to go before he wins the nomination.  She should make him work for everyone of them, and in the process he will have to become more detailed in his plans.  There is no way that he should be able to go into the GE without developing good plans to run on.  The Hope/Change run that is carrying him now is going to peter out after another couple of months of it, and he will be left with nothing substantial to carry him through the General.  He would be facing McCain and needs a whole lot more credibility in foriegn policy.  That's just one area he will have to work on.
